Get creative with your Tuna Tartare

tunatartarepic1Tuna Tartare is one of my favorite dishes and I finally I had the courage to do it on my own, inspired in Lauren’s recipes from Food From the Heart http://ffthmiami.com/, now is a dish I do almost every other week experimenting with different ingredients every time I make it.

Ingredients I use:

Fish: Wild caught fresh Yellow Fin Tuna (say No to Blue Fin Tuna, it’s endangered). I like to use the top portion of the tuna, which is tenderer with fewer tendons. The rest I cut it into portions and freeze it for future meals on the grill.

For the Base Sauce:

  • 1 tbsp. of liquid amino (my healthy substitute for soy sauce)
  • 1 tsp. miso
  • 2 limes (limones)
  • 1 tbsp. rice vinegar
  • ½ tbsp. garlic powder
  • Wasabi powder to taste (optional)

For this recipe my additional ingredients where:

  • Chives
  • Tomatoes
  • Avocado
  • Quinoa

Preparation:

Mix all the ingredients from the base sauce. The measurements are based on my taste preferences but feel free to add more or less of each.

Then I added it to my tuna. After that add the chives, avocado, quinoa and tomatoes.

To style it I bought this awesome food molding.

This tuna mix can be added to anything you want. To give you some ideas place it over butter lettuce, tacos or tortillas, a bed of spinach, you name it!
